Kabir Ke Dohe in Hindi लंबे समय से आध्यात्मिक और नैतिक समझ को दिशा देने में अपने गहन ज्ञान और कालातीत प्रासंगिकता के लिए जाने जाते हैं।
भारत के 15वीं सदी के रहस्यवादी कवि कबीर दास ने अपने पीछे कबीर के दोहे के नाम से छंदों का खजाना छोड़ा है। ये दोहे, हालांकि रूप में सरल हैं, लेकिन उनमें दमदार प्रभाव है। वे आध्यात्मिकता, सामाजिक न्याय और मानवीय स्थिति के गहन विषयों पर प्रकाश डालते हैं। दोहे, जिसका हिंदी में अर्थ है “दो-पंक्ति वाला” कबीर की शिक्षाओं के सार को पूरी तरह से दर्शाता है।

दुर्बल को न सताइए, जाकी मोटी हाय।
बिना जीव की सांस से, लोहा भस्म हो जाय।
Don’t oppress the weak, for their sighs can destroy even iron.
बड़ा हुआ तो क्या हुआ, जैसे पेड़ खजूर।
पंछी को छाया नहीं, फल लागे अति दूर।
What good is greatness like a date tree? It provides no shade for travelers and its fruits are out of reach.
कबीरा खड़ा बाजार में, सबकी मांगे खैर।
ना काहू से दोस्ती, ना काहू से बैर।
Kabir stands in the marketplace, wishing well for all. He has neither friends nor foes.
साईं इतना दीजिए, जा में कुटुम समाय।
मैं भी भूखा न रहूँ, साधु न भूखा जाय।
O Lord, give me just enough to sustain my family and to feed the holy ones.
पोथी पढ़ि पढ़ि जग मुआ, पंडित भया न कोय।
ढाई आखर प्रेम का, पढ़े सो पंडित होय।
The world has died reading scriptures, but no one became wise. The one who understands the two-and-a-half letters of love is the true sage.
जब मैं था तब हरी नहीं, अब हरी है मैं नाहीं।
सब अँधियारा मिट गया, दीपक देखा माहीं।
When I was there, God was not; now God is there, and I am not. All darkness disappeared when I saw the light within.
माला फेरत जुग भया, गया न मन का फेर।
कर का मनका डार दे, मन का मनका फेर।
One keeps turning the beads of the rosary, but the mind doesn’t change. Drop the beads and turn the mind.
एक माटी के घड़े, एक माटी के चूल्हे।
एक माटी के बर्तन, एक माटी के होठे।
Pots, stoves, utensils, and the lips that touch them are all made of the same clay.
मसि कागद छूयो नहीं, कलम गहि नहिं हाथ।
तीनों लोकों की विद्या, हरि ने दीन्ही नाथ।
I have not touched ink or paper, nor held a pen in my hand. The Lord has bestowed the knowledge of all three worlds upon me.
कबीरा ते नर अंध है, गुरु को कहते और।
हरि रूठे गुरु ठौर है, गुरु रूठे नहीं ठौर।
- Kabir says those who don’t respect the guru are blind. If God is angry, the guru is there; but if the guru is angry, there is no refuge.
कबीरा गरब न कीजिये, ऊंचा देख आवास।
काल्हि परयि भुइं लेटना, ऊपरि जमसी घास।
Kabir, don’t be arrogant, seeing your high mansion. Tomorrow, you will lie on the ground, with grass growing above you.
रात गंवाई सोय कर, दिवस गंवाया खाय।
हीरा जन्म अमोल सा, कोड़ी बदले जाय।
The night was lost in sleeping, the day in eating. A precious diamond-like life was squandered for mere shells.
चाह मिटी, चिंता मिटी, मनवा बेपरवाह।
जिनको कुछ नहीं चाहिए, वो शहंशाह।
Desires and worries are gone, the mind is carefree. Those who need nothing are the true kings.
कबीरा सोई पीर है, जो जाने पर पीर।
जो पर पीर न जानई, सो काफिर बेपीर।
Kabir says that one is a true saint who feels the pain of others. One who does not feel others’ pain is faithless and heartless.
प्रेम न बाड़ी उपजै, प्रेम न हाट बिकाय।
राजा परजा जो रुचै, शीश देइ ले जाय।
Love cannot be cultivated in fields, nor sold in markets. A king or a commoner who desires it must sacrifice his head to obtain it.
माला फेरत जुग भया, गया न मन का फेर।
कर का मनका डार दे, मन का मनका फेर।
Turning the rosary beads for ages hasn’t changed the mind. Drop the beads and turn the mind instead.
संत न छाड़ै संतई, जो कोटिक मिले असंत।
चंदन विष व्याप्त नहीं, लिपटे रहत भुजंग।
A saint doesn’t abandon his saintliness even in the company of a million rogues. Just as sandalwood does not get tainted by the snakes that coil around it.
मन लागो यार फकीरी में।
झीनी-झीनी बीनी चदरिया।
My mind is absorbed in the lifestyle of a fakir (ascetic). The fine, fine fabric of life is woven delicately.
हरि से हीरा, हरि से मानिक।
हरि से मोती हरि से आनिक।
कहत कबीरा हरि का प्यारा।
सब है हरि के प्रेम का मारा।
Diamonds, rubies, and pearls all come from God. Kabir says that those who are dear to God are enchanted by His love.
दुःख में सुमिरन सब करे, सुख में करे न कोय।
जो सुख में सुमिरन करे, तो दुःख काहे होय।
Everyone remembers God in sorrow, but none in joy. If one remembers God in happiness, why would sorrow come?
