Baseball legend Willie Mays passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on June 18, 2024. While an official cause of death wasn’t widely reported, sources state he died of heart failure surrounded by loved ones.
Mays was a beloved figure in baseball, and his death has been met with an outpouring of grief from fans and players alike. He is considered one of the greatest all-around players in the history of the sport, and he holds numerous records, including most career home runs by a center fielder (660) and most stolen bases by a center fielder (338).
Mays played for the New York/San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets during his 22-year career. He was a 24-time All-Star, a two-time World Series champion, and a two-time National League MVP. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.
Mays’ death is a loss for the baseball community and the world. He was a true legend of the game, and he will be deeply missed.
